A Blind date to witness the Patriotic fervor

What happened at Wagah border Beating Retreat Ceremony #TheBlindList #sayyestotheworld

I grow up watching Narnia and harry potter movies. These movies open up a new world of imagination. Got to explore variants in terms of language, culture, food and of course relationships.

The thing that fascinates me the most is that there is so much beauty in the world and one lifetime is not enough to see it all. I always wish to go on a trip where I could explore the incredible world and unveils amazing experience.

Have you ever gone on an unexpected journey? 3 years back I got a chance to go on the blind date when my mom recovered after a long-term illness. She wants her family to take a break and we planned a short trip in an overnight.

We have gone on a road trip on a most bizarre tourist attraction The Wagah border. This is located on the highway between Amritsar and Lahore.

This Wagah border Beating Retreat Ceremony is one of those blind dates I have never witnessed before. And when I come across touts selling Indian flags I knew this is going to be a spectacular experience.

This final frontier, Wagah is the only border crossing between India and Pakistan. It ‘s situated about 28 km. from Amritsar.

The Tourist attraction is Wagah border closing ceremony in which the changing of the guards and the ceremonial lowering of the flags is carried out with great pomp.

We reach this place via taxi from Amritsar about half an hour before the ceremony. A crowd of about 10000 people gathered in this stadium seating on the Indian side of the Wagah border.

The competitive cheering across the borders rushes down the adrenaline around my nerve. This really wakes up the patriotic side of me and I feel so proud of my country.

Around 4 pm the real action kicked off and we prepared ourselves to witness the world-famous border closing ceremony.

A Blind date to witness the Patriotic fervor

Popular local music began blaring from all angles. There’s a kickoff cheerful dance party in the middle of the road. Only women are allowed to join the party and men can watch from the stadium.

It was an electrifying experience where I got a chance to shake my body along with women of all ages and nationalities. They were dancing, hollering, and radiating their pride for the country.

After that crowds of people were invited to carry the flag and run to the border gate and back. This really gave me goosebumps to witness how patriotic we Indians are.

Post this, the ceremony began and the decoratively turbaned guards on either side thrust their legs upwards as a way of displaying strength and performed their marches.

The competitive cheering between across borders getting louder and also gave me chills. The atmosphere was intense and filled with nationalistic zeal, and I have never witnessed anything like this before.

The parade was grand and showcase the discipline of the soldiers guarding the border. The soldiers shake their hand. After that, they lowered their respective flags and the gates were closed. At last we Indians stole the show with flag-waving and patriotic slogans.

The show was a symbol of the rivalry as well as brotherhood between the two countries. The show was over and we headed back to Amritsar.

It’s one of those experiences that I think every Indian should witness once in a lifetime. I’ll highly recommend this place because the ceremony is really one of a kind.

It’ll be great if you visit the Partition Museum before witnessing the border ceremony which will give you insights about the separation of India and Pakistan and the border ceremony.

I’m really lucky to go on this unexpected blind trip along with my family. Got to witness the beauty of Indian culture in a go. From dancing to local music, cheering for India, waving flags. This really gives us another perspective of India – one that exhibits loyalty and strength in unity.
