Churails: First Zindagi Original Series By ZEE5 Paving the way for women-centric content

Women are always judged for taking a stand for themselves in Indian culture. No matter how progressive, supportive society is.

Whether you are working out or living as a housewife. Speaking for your rights is always judged by society and in some cases by family circles.

As we dig deeper, these criticism pave ways for serious things like sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, racial discrimination, and many more.

There’s one incident that I came across during my hostel life. 

 “Don’t beat, Don’t beat me. leave me” she speaks in an anguished voice. This woman who’s living in the house next to my hostel is beaten every day by her drunk husband. 

It was 2 am, we all girls were studying but the disturbing voices broke our concentration. A long discussion is on and there are mixed reactions.

Some wanted this woman to leave her husband, some wanted her to speak about domestic violence and do police complaints.

But in the morning what I saw completely changed my perspective about life. She is see-off her husband with a smile on her face.

I tried to find out last night’s brutality in her blank eyes but I failed.

That day I realized it’s not easy for a woman to take a stand for herself in this male-driven society.

Being women we are always taught about adjustments, compromises, and shutting our mouth against any wrongdoings by husbands, in-laws, or in offices, etc.

The worst thing is that mainstream drama is showcasing the woman as “ABLA NARI” who is being tortured by every next family member.

The thing that hurt me badly is that here a woman is tortured by a woman.

Since cinema has a sound impact on Indians, these dramas are reflecting what’s happening in our society and vice versa.

To break the ice progressive and meaningful women-centric content is needed.

Where women are taking a stand, speaking up against evils of society, and making their way out of all the mess of their lives.

Good thing is that the OTT platform like ZEE5 revamps the image of the woman and breaks stereotypes with the women-centric web series. #MainChurailHoon

They bring a brand new set of stories that revolve around women, covering their real-life issues.

One such show that marks the strong presence is the “Churails” the first original from Zindagi.

The series narrates the story of four self-proclaimed Churails (witches) who are embarking on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

The show is led by Sarwat Gilani, Nimra Bucha, Mehar Bano, and Yasra Rizvi. These four headstrong women are a wedding planner, a lawyer, a boxer, and an ex-convict respectively.

Sara aka Sarwat Gilani is not just “a perfect wife”… there’s more to her than you can imagine. 

Smart and badass, Jugnu Chaudhary aka Yasra Rizvi is the QUEEN of this whole damn jungle.

We have three words for Batool aka Nimra Bucha Fierce, Strong, Deadly. 

Unlike her name, Zubaida aka Mehar Bano is not a pretty flower, she’s a pretty good fighter.

They open a detective agency that aims to expose cheating husbands in Karachi. As the story progresses, more women join in their mission, until they face a blockade.

The story of Churails is fast-paced and gripping where the female leads rescued abused, harassed, and mistreated women from the clutches of men.

The show covers the stereotype issues such as patriarchy, child abuse, exploitation, sexism, the domination of the class, and racial discrimination.

This timely show with pertinent themes will give you goosebumps. A sensible audience will resonate with these women who are fighting to end stereotypes.

This show is extremely progressive and extremely relevant to the current time. With feminist as the agenda and burning topic about women’s rights, you will experience a new wave of feminism.

This woman-centric web series  “Churails” definitely pumps new life among the audience with empowering stories that inspire to aspire.

With a flawless yet eye-opening narrative, this web-series is one of the best women-centric I’ve witnessed so far. You’re gonna gorge on this masterpiece immediately.
