Today is World No Tobacco Day. Whatever reason has pushed you towards smoking, Today is the day to quit smoking. Choose health, choose life, and be smoke-free.

Smoking kills more than 80 lakhs people every year across the globe.

According to the WHO

Smoking damages your airways and alveoli found in your lungs further causing lung disease. Tobacco smoking causes most cases of lung cancer.

Smoking weakens your immunity and damages your lungs. This increases your chance of getting COVID-19.

As per WHO

Nicotine is present in maximum amount in tobacco which is very harmful to health. A person gets 1-2mg of nicotine from each cigarette (on average).

  1. A person starts feeling thirst, anxious, brain not working properly.
  2. They lose sense of smell and flavor.
  3. Your skin and lips turn dry and black.
  4. You will have difficulty in breathing or suffocated.

Tobacco is responsible for 25% of all cancer death globally. Use of tobacco, nicotine increase the chances of complicated disease like cancer, heart disease, respiratory diseases.

Hence nicotine present in cigarettes makes a person addicted to drugs and hence it becomes difficult to quit smoking.

The long term side effects of smoking are devastating. Smoking causes 2/3rd of lung cancer deaths globally.

Smoking causes chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In this lungs are filled with mucus containing causing painful cough and difficulty in breathing.

It also causes Asthama, emphysema, pneumonia, chronic bronchitis, and lower respiratory infections.

Second-hand smoking or Passive smoking is the inhalation of smoke from surrounding active smokers. That means if someone smokes cigarettes, cigars, or pipes or any tobacco products around you then you are inhaling that smoke unknowingly.

Do you say that you don’t smoke? But you are in constant touch with family/friends who smoke. Dear, you are passive smokers. How? As they expel out the smoke, you inhale it. Remember this smoke travels to the lungs.

Passive Smokers are at risk especially children or pregnant ladies. Their chances of getting respiratory infections, heart diseases, stroke, or even lung cancer increased.
