India is the pool of culture and traditions. It varies from region to region. One can get a close glimpse of Indian culture via Indian television shows. They play major roles in showcasing the true picture of Indian society.

India being a multi-cultural society, we have tv shows based on different communities like Hindus (Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, Marathi, Rajputs, etc.), and shows based on Muslim culture too. 

Some of the TV shows like Qubool Hai, Ishq Subhan Allah that showcase the beauty of Muslim culture and received immense acclaim. Now, the success formula has been repeated in the webspace with Ishq Aaj Kal. To see how Muslim culture meets a thrilling plot, you should Watch Ishq Aaj Kal on ZEE5.

Hindi TV shows That Are Breaking Down Muslim Stereotypes

Now coming to the portrayal of Muslim culture in TV, they have made their way into our living rooms and totally challenged our notions.

QUBOOL HAI ZZE5

Take, for example, Qubool Hai, Zee TV’s first Muslim social drama serial, which set a benchmark to break all stereotypes about the community. This is a family saga which is a mixture of drama and romance.

The story depicts the true essence of Muslim culture, which is so rich and yet most misunderstood.  Zoya is a modern girl who questions stereotypes. She respects her culture but does not believe in following it blindly.

ISHQ SUBHAN ALLAH ZEE5

Then there was the ZEE TV show Ishq Subhan Allah. It is based on the sensitive issue of triple talaq. The characters Kabeer and Zara, interpret Islam very differently.

Kabeer is a Maulvi who abides by the Shariyat board while Zara is a well-educated woman who applies the teachings of Islam logically, and she is a strong preacher of gender equality and justice.

Now, ZEE5 recently released a web series Ishq Aaj Kal on their platform. Adapted from the popular TV show Ishq Subhan Allah, the series explores romance, drama, scandals and Muslim culture in the backdrop of the hotel industry. 

In the series, Angad Hasija essays the role of Arshad Ali Khan. He is a conservative Muslim man with immense influence in the hotel industry.

But behind his stylish persona are scars from a troubled childhood.  Ankitta Sharma plays the female lead Aaliya Jaffri. She’s trying to find the truth about her father’s role who was jailed for her mother’s death. 

Faraz Sheikh, played by Paras Kalnawat, is trying to prove the innocence of his father in the series. How these characters with different motive meet in the backdrop of a prestigious hotel and their conflicts clash forms the crux of the series.

With shows such as the ones mentioned above, we see a promising change in the television, movies and web series circuit. Let’s hope we get to see more such enlighting content. So, which is your favorite among all the mentioned shows? Share your answers in the comments.

  3. Qubool hai is my all time favorite TV show., I loved the charterers the most. Ishq Aaj Kal seems to be a nice show which has perfect blend of romance, drama and scandals. Let me binge watch it

  5. I think islam is a religion of strict rules but these rules are mis interpreted…if they are applied logically we could surely say all religion are same …

  6. I am not a fond of tv serials .I haven’t watched this show but as you said it’s breaking stereotypes I think it’s great !

  7. I used to love Qubool Hai and never missed any of its episodes. I will surely try and see this and Ishq Aaj Kal onn Zee5.

  9. My mom used to watch a lot Qubool hai and so I followed and yes..these serials and webseries are really breaking down many stereotypes!!

  18. I have seen some of these shows, and while i agree that they are changing perception but i feel they are also bringing to light the cultural aspects and challenges.

  19. People should think about life beyond cast and community. A hindu muslim marriage should be well accepted. Things are changing so fast. Good to see that Zee5 is working on these stories to make people more aware about it. Nothing matters, humanity is the ultimate thing

  20. I am not a TV fan and missed on many interesting elada. But this sounds worth a watch. Will check if my aubsciption for zee 5 is still valid
