10 yoga poses to reduce stress and anxiety

We all are undergoing mental stress in our day-to-day life. And this often causes strain, anxiety, restlessness, loss of sleep, lack of concentration, loss of interest in daily work. I know there is a moment in our lives when we reach a block and want to be alone. We don’t want to talk to anyone and feel irritated all the time. This affects you along with your relationships, your home peaceful environment, the people around you, your work capabilities. Trust me don’t feel guilty for your behavior. Every other normal individual behaves likes this while under mental stress and tension. According to research, 80% of men & 74% of women live under stress.

10 yoga poses to reduce stress and anxiety

Now you would be thinking about what to do to reduce this stress. The only thing that you need to do things that will help you to reduce stress. Apart from counseling, and other relevant therapies, meditation or yoga is one of the oldest and best ways to reduce stress. We are discussing the top 5 yoga poses to reduce stress and anxiety. Try these yoga poses for stress relief.

1. Sukhasana (Easy Pose)

Sit down bending your knees. Put your left foot under your right knee and vice versa. Keep the spine, neck, and head straight. Put palms on your knees. Focus on your breathing. Change the crossed legs after 60 seconds. The Sukhasana (Easy pose) will reduce your anxiety and calms you down. Also, reduce mental and physical exhaustion.

2. Balasana (Child’s pose)

Kneel down and then sit on your heels. Bend forward till your chest touches your thighs. Rest your hands on the side. Breathe deeply and hold on to this position as long as possible. Balasana will calm your mind and your release stress. It also relieves neck and back pain. 

3. Paschimottanasana (Seated forward bend)

Paschimottanasana will help to relieve stress, relieves symptoms of menopause & PMS, improves digestion, reduce fatigue, and improve liver health. Sit down with your feet extended forward. Now bend forward till your stomach touches your thighs. Breathe deeply and hold on to this position for 30 seconds. Then return to the original position. 

4. Ananda Balasana (Happy baby pose) 

Lie on your back. Now bend your knees towards your belly. Stretch your hands and hold your feet. Now widen your knees and stay in this position for 60 seconds. Ananda Balasana will calm your mind and remove fatigue and stress.

5. Uttanasana (Standing forward bend)

Uttanasana will treat mild depression and anxiety. It calms down your brain. Also, stimulate your kidneys and liver. Stand straight and bend down forward. Align your upper body against your lower body. Put your palms on the ground. Take 3-4 Breathe at this position. Then return to the original position.

6. Wide-Legged Standing Forward Bend (Prasarita Padottanasa)

This pose has the benefits of a forward bend with the comfort of the head touching a prop, which also releases some of the Widen your legs, aligns your feet. Bend forward from jour hips and do forward bend. Put your hands in line with toes at shoulder distance apart. Release your head down. Take 10 breaths in this position. And then return to normal position. This pose will release the pressure in your head.

7. Rabbit Pose (Sasangasana)Kneel down and bend forward. Place your head on the ground and lift your hips. The weight should be on your feet. Take your hands away from your back. Cross your finger. Breathe and count for 10 and release. This pose works wonders if you are stressed or exhausted. You must try out this yoga poses to reduce stress and anxiety.

8. Thunderbolt Pose (Vajrasana) with Eagle (Garudasana) arms This pose relieves your stress. Kneel down and sit on your heels. Bend your elbows and cross your arms with the backs of your hands facing each other. Touch the palms with each other with thumbs pointing towards your nose. Hold this position for 5 breaths, then change position. 

9. Side stretch This will release your neck, head, and shoulders. Kneel down and sit on your heels. Place one and on the floor away from your body. And another hand over your hand in the air. Hold this position for 5 breaths, then change position. 

10. Bhujangasana(Cobra Pose): It is very effective yoga poses to reduce stress and anxiety and relief in asthma. Lie down on your stomach, place your hands near your shoulder. Hold this position for 5 breaths, then relax.

  2. I practice all these poses. And yes, they help a lot in maintaining calmness. Yoga not only help in improving flexibility but also has many long term benefits In todays circumstances, we need more calmness. Now more and more people are getting inclined towards Yoga.
