Here are some of his 5 unconventional movies that you got to watch:

1. Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana

Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana is a 2017 Hindi romantic drama that is set in a  rural backdrop of India where the obsession with civil services is very high. The protagonists meet over an arranged marriage proposal and fall in love with each other. But on the day of the marriage, the girl decides to run away to pursue her career. Destiny takes them in two different directions. What happened next? will the two meet in the end?

In this movie, Rajkummar is at his usual best with his brilliant acting skills. His transformation from a loving man in the first half of the movie to the heartbroken practical man who does not believe in love is flawless. His acting makes you love, pity and hate him, through the course of the movie.

2. City Light

Another movie directed by Hansal Mehta, City Light is a story of Deepak and Rakhi. They struggle through the harshness of the city of Mumbai, but they do not lose hope. In the end, Mumbai’s ruthlessness consumes Deepak’s life but he is able to save his family.

Rajkummar Rao gets into the skin of his character – a poor immigrant struggling in Mumbai. He gives his hundred percent and his acting is absolutely effortless. If you want to watch a true gem you should watch City Lights at the earliest, his performance is something that one would remember even after the film ends.

Newton has basically set a benchmark for content-driven cinema in recent times. The movie revolves around a government clerk who conducts elections in a Naxal region. Playing a common man in an unusual situation, the character’s simplicity and determination really stand out through his restrained performance in the film.

4. Trapped

In Trapped, he played the role of a man, who is accidentally locked in a newly constructed building. This movie showcases how he is the best in Bollywood when it comes to method acting.

To portray this character he starved himself for several days. In the process, he lost nearly 7 kgs. The only actor on-screen for a major part of the movie, the movie relies on Rao’s exceptional acting and he beautifully delivers to the expectations.

His character displays all traits of human nature from irritation to anger to fear within the short runtime of the film. His dedication to his character shows how passionate he is about acting.

5. Aligarh

Hansal Mehta’s Aligarh is based on a true story of Professor Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras is a refreshing narrative in Indian cinema. Finally, there was a movie that tried to look closer into the life of homosexuals without stereotyping them. Rao’s role, journalist Deepu Sebastian acts as the audience’s perspective in the movie and yet again he proves his worth through a restrained performance.
