There are not any well known or accurate causes of PCOS. It can be Genetic ( inherited ) or Environmental Factors.
 
Genetic Factors can be inherited from mother or sister with the condition. Research have shown that genetics plays important role in its development.
 
Though the women with PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome ( PCOS ) carries multiple small cysts in ovaries, that’s why it is known as Poly ( Many )Cystic Ovarian Syndrome ( PCOS ). A similar number of cysts may be present in women without PCOS. 
 
Hence we can say that having multiple ovarian cysts is not the only deciding factor behind PCOS.
 
Elevated levels of insulin or insulin resistance can lead to malfunction of the body’s Blood sugar control system. This is common in women with PCOS. 
 
Elevated levels of male hormones, Androgen may be the result of or related to the abnormalities of insulin production.
 
Research have shown that these abnormalities may be related to the development of PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome ( PCOS )
