During pregnancy, the use of certain medications is contraindicated; the same happens with essential oils, especially in the first months.

Take Precautions

Most essential oils are restricted during pregnancy. The reason for this restriction is simple: the oils can reach the placenta and affect the unborn child. This does not apply to all oils, however.

Some are authorized from the fourth month and others even throughout the entire gestation. They are the essential oils that do not contain toxic molecules capable of causing harm to the mother or the child. It is possible to use them with medical consent.

Effective to calm nausea, combat insomnia, prevent baby blues, stress and facilitate delivery, oils are enormously useful, especially since most medications are prohibited during pregnancy.

The Seven Golden Rules of Aromatherapy

  1. Never use synthetic oils, available in supermarkets, souvenir shops, and cosmetics. These do not present any therapeutic action and can even be dangerous. Use only one hundred percent natural oils, available in pharmacies.
  2. Respect the mode of use, as well as the recommended dosage.
  3. Never replace one oil with another. Mint arvensis can only be used after the fourth month of pregnancy, but peppermint, for example, is strictly prohibited. So it is not a matter of buying any mint oil, but of taking the precise subtype indicated for a given problem.
  4. Do not make your own mixes, the consequences of doing so can be serious.
  5. Use essential oils for a limited time, that is, in a timely manner (only once) or for 10 or 15 days maximum.
  6. Never apply them in the abdominal area.
  7. Follow the advice and verify what oils are allowed during pregnancy. With them, you should be able to alleviate some discomforts before the arrival of the baby!
