Today’s busy life & fast work space silently molded our daily routine habits & it shifts from etiquette to adjust according to our mood ,body & time. I often  eat up Lunch/dinner at my desk when I am at work or on my couch when at home . I have never given much thought to when or where I eat, but a recent brush with Yoga grooming classes has switch on the Red button & force me to rethink the type of environment I eat in and how it affects on my wellbeing.

I got to collect valuable Lesson to change our environment while we eat. Yoga teaches that the environment you eat in affects your food and digestion. It doesn’t take much to change your environment for the better. These great lessons works wonders for the one who is trying to squeeze a little more relaxation and joy into their daily routine.

How stress affects our eating, and how simple changes can make an impact !!!

If you’ve ever experienced a sudden lack of appetite when relatives were arguing at the dinner table, you have already felt a sense for just how important a comfortable environment is for proper digestion.

If you’re eating in such a stressful environment  then, according to Yoga, the sympathetic nervous system tends to take over — this is the “fight or flight” system that will essentially shut down appetite, pump stress hormones into the bloodstream, and direct blood away from the digestive tract and out to the limbs and head in order to take action.

When eating in a lovely environment, enjoying the company of friends, or just quietly eating a meal, the comfy environment introduced the peace in mind, which relaxed our nervous system, and thus supports optimal digestive strength.

I believe an uncomfortable environment will decrease our desire to eat and weaken the ability to properly digest . Even for those with the strongest of bellies or are having the healthy food, this negative environment can cause indigestion, gas and bloating, acid reflux, constipation blah blah blah.

Set up a positive eating environment!!

Whether at home or at work, just a few simple changes can create a positive eating environment, sure to satisfy your palate, create ease in your belly, and in your mind

  1. Set up the table in inviting way with the help of attractive mats, candles, and fresh flowers. The pleasing setup will attract you to the table to sit and appreciate each bite.

  2. Shut down all the distractions like your favorite , all social media channels . Wait until after eating to catch them up .

  3. Focus your attention on the color, aroma, taste, and texture of your meal.

  4. Try a meal alone in silent environment .

  5. If its good weather , setup your lunch outside in your garden , set up a table by the window and focus your attention on nature & enjoy trees, flowerbeds, vibrant sky.

  6. Before eating, You can sweep away all the pressure from the workday by taking relaxing breaths. Sit erect and close eyes. Inhale deeply through your nose and exhale through your mouth. This short pause can  ease the mind, and relax the belly.

  7. Gazing at nature fills the mind with positive note ! By Placing a small plant in your dinning area you can introduce the soothing element of nature.

Try these tricks for enjoying a relaxing, mindful meal .The big takeaways here are that you should attempt to create a relaxed environment while you eat, even if you only have five minutes to do so.

That’s some interesting piece of info. I have always felt though that for eating a peaceful environment is the best but never knew on how it affects digestion. I guess in today’s fast paced and busy environment so many people tend to eat while at work at their desks or with their gadgets and sadly this ends up causing our eating habits to go for a toss.

Love to hear from you :)
