What is Google Analytics?
According to Wikipedia Google Analytics is a freemium web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. Google Analytics is now the most widely used web analytics service on the Internet.
If you don’t know what Google Analytics is, haven’t installed it on your website, or have installed it but never look at your data, then this post is for you.
In this post, we will discuss Google Analytics from a beginner’s point of view and. Why you need it, how to get it, how to use it, and workarounds to common problems.
Why Blog/website needs Google Analytics
Do you have a blog? Do you have a website? If the answer is yes, then you need Google Analytics. Given Below are a few questions about your blog/website that you can answer using Google Analytics.
- How many people visit my Blog/website?
- Where do my visitors live?
- What websites send traffic to my Blog/website?
- Which pages on my blogs are the most popular?
- How can I improve my blog’s speed?
- What blog content do my visitors like the most?
There are many more questions that Google Analytics can answer, but these questions are most important for most website owners.
How to install Google Analytics
First, you need a Google account, If you already have one go with that or create a new one.
Once you are done with Google account, Search for Google Analytics and click. You will then be directed to the three steps you must take to set up Google Analytics.
After you click on the Sign-Up button, you have to fill out information on your blog/ website.
Google Analytics offers hierarchies to organize your account.You can have up to 50 website properties under one Google Analytics account.
For the SEO Series Google Analytics Beginner’s Guide, we’re going to assume you have one website and only need one view.
Beneath this, you will have the option to configure where your Google Analytics data can be shared.
Install your tracking code
The moment you finish with making a new account, you have to click the Get Tracking ID button. You will get a popup of the terms and conditions. You have to agree to that by clicking it. Then you will get the tracking code of Google Analytics.
This must be installed on every page on your website. The installation will depend on what type of website you have. For example,if you have a WordPress on your own domain, you can use the Google Analytics by Yoast plugin to install your code easily no matter what theme or framework you are using.
Alternatively, If you have a website built with HTML files, You have to add the tracking code before the </head> tag on each page of your blog/website. You can do this by using a text editor program in the appearance section of Blog/Website and then upload the file to your hosting using an FTP program.
Here you see that the installation of Google Analytics varies according to the platform you use. You should be able to find easy instructions to install Google Analytics by doing a web search.
